IMSU VC admonishes matriculants on diligence to achieve success
Prof. Peter Akah, Vice Chancellor, Imo State University (IMSU), has advised new students to study assiduously and imbibe effective time management skills to achieve academic success.
Akah gave the advice during the maiden matriculation of the University for Continuing Education Programme (ICEP) in Owerri on Saturday.According to him, anything contrary to healthy habits and attitude would be counter productive.He assured the students of the institution’s commitment to the tenets of hard work and dedication to duty, adding that those who take their studies seriously would be celebrated in the long run.“You are advised to be resolute in the pursuit of your collective dreams by studying assiduous, managing your time effectively and not giving in to intellectual lassitude as the best results are achieved through committed hard work.“We are convinced that you will hearken to the clarion call for honesty, dedication, self-discipline and ambition to make your families, the university, Imo, Nigeria and the world at large proud by your relentless efforts,” he said.
Dr Julius Osuagwu, IMSU Registrar who administered the oath, urged matriculants to conscientiously observe the rules and regulations made for good order of the University.Osuagwu, represented by Mr Benjamin Onyewuchi, the ICEP Principal Assistant Registrar and Secretary, advised the matriculants to refrain from actions capable of disrupting the functions of the school.“I charge you to be diligent in the pursuit of your course of study and refrain from violence or other actions that can disrupt the functions of the University or likely bring it into disrepute,” he said.Also speaking, Prof. Andrew Igwemma, the ICEP Director, said that the institute would run evening and weekend programmes even though matriculants were admitted only into evening programmes.
Igwemma, a Professor of Industrial Economics, added that the 250 matriculants were spread across the institute’s seven departments captured under the Faculties of Management Sciences and Social Sciences respectively.He also advised the students to eschew laziness, embrace hard work, attend classes, do all assignments and avoid attitudes that could lead to their expulsion from the University.“ICEP runs the programmes while the university awards degrees upon successful completion of each five-year programme.“The 2020/2021 matriculation is a maiden event and more departments and faculties will be added to the institute as the programme progresses.“It will be in the best interests of the students to be diligent, obedient and hardworking so that success will be theirs in the end,” he said.
However, one of the matriculants, My Ugochukwu Dike, promised to put in his best to make the institution and his family proud. (NAN)
