Impeachment Threat On Buhari Not Necessary Now – Barr. Okoye

An Onitsha based legal practitioner, Chief Clifford Iloegbuna Okoye Esq has urged the National Assembly to discard the impeachment threat On the Nigerian President, Gen. Mohammed Buhari Rtd  based on insecurity challenges  in the Nigerian.

Fielding questions from newsmen in Onitsha, the former Nigeria Bar Association ( NBA) boss Aguata Chapter said that the impeachment threat is late and capable to truncate 2023 general election.

According to him, ” I have long expected the National Assembly to talk seriously about the insecurity challenges in Nigeria. I have also expected that National Assembly to take bold step towards compelling the executive to look seriously at the plights of teeming Nigeria citizens who are murdered on daily basis by herdsmen,  terrorists and bandits”

The legal luminary who lamented that Nigerians were under attacks since seven years said” The roads are not free in Nigeria, our farmland are not free, the airport is not free. So, it is a serious situation and it calls for serious attention. When the members of National Assembly threatened to the president with impeachment.  If that will make our president to sit up, it is better. If this threat comes seriously and he begins to do something about insecurity before he leaves office, it is still advantage to Nigeria citizens”

He specifically pointed out that the National Assembly might not  successfully impeach the president within Six months based on rigorous  constitutional requirement, urging them not to initiate the impeachment bill in order not to shatter 2023 general election.

” Election is around the corner, if they initiate the impeachment bill now, it will take minimum of Six months by then it will  truncate the peaceful election which might attract anarchy otherwise, the president have committed several impeachable offences but National Assembly looked away” 

Further more, Chief Iloegbuna Okoye Esq in totality condemned Muslim-Muslim ticket in presidential election in Nigeria, stating that it is unconstitutional.

” Nigeria is a circular society that respect religion interest in the country and constitution also talked about equity in Federal character. So, Muslim-Muslim ticket in unconstitutional and it doesn’t accommodate Christian interest in Nigeria and urges the electorates to use their permanent Voters Card ( PVC) to through the Party away” He posited !
