IHRD: Nigerian Red Cross donates medical equipment to Anambra PHC

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra Branch, has donated medical equipment to Primary Health Care Center in Umuogbu Village, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra.

The Red Cross made the donation as part of activities marking the 2021 International Human Rights Day (IHRD) in Anambra.

The medical supplies which were largely hardwares include hand gloves, adhesive tapes, extractors, gauze bandages, syringes, needles, cannulas, suction tube and measuring tapes.

Others are clinical and digital thermometer, stainless bowl, kidney stainless basin, plastic draw sheet, apron, forceps, scalpel handle, scissors, sphygmomanometer, Stethoscope and Tourniquet latex rubber.

Handing over the equipment, Prof. Peter Katchy, Chairman, Red Cross Society in Anambra, said every year a health facility is selected to benefit from the body and that Umuogbu was selected for this year’s edition.

He said to mark the international human rights day, NRCS Anambra Branch selected the Umuogbu primary health care for the presentation in service to humanity.

Katchy advised the managers of the facility to ensure judicious use of the items and ensure they serve the purpose for which they are intended.

Receiving the donations on behalf of the Centre, Chief Leo Nwuba, chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, said the donation is a huge support to the healthcare capacity in the Area.

Nwuba said though everyday is for humanitarian activity, it is good to set out a day to honour the people who took their time to support the course of humanity.

He said his Local Government Area is privileged and delighted to receive the Red Cross team and their humanitarian gifts in a Primary Health Care in his domain.

In a remark of appreciation, Mrs Grace Nwobu, Matron of the Primary Healthcare Centre, said she is glad that her clinic was singled out for the support.

Nwobu said, “I appreciate the leadership of Red Cross Society, Anambra, for this honour and promise that they will be put to good use.”

The Red Cross team included Mr Fidelis Ikeji, Branch Communication Coordinator in Anambra, Mr Kingsley Okoye, its secretary, among other officers. (NAN)

  1. The healthcare centre should make use of the equipment given to them for it’s purpose and not the other way round and may God bless the Red Cross for donating those equipment because they the importance of human life.
