Igwe Mbaukwu Gifts Palace To Catholic Church
The traditional ruler of Mbaukwu in Awka South local government area of Anambra state Igwe Peter Anugwu, has officially handed over his palace compound, including its buildings, to the Pallotttine Christian community, a religious body from the Roman Catholic Church.
According to Igwe Anugwu, the two-storey building, which includes 10 sitting rooms, 18 standard rooms, and a basement, was constructed by a foreign company more than 44 years ago.
Igwe Anugwu explained that his decision to gift the entire palace, with the exception of the building where he resides, is a gesture of gratitude to God, who has blessed him with prosperity. He emphasized that he invited fellow traditional rulers, government representatives, and a few others to witness the event to ensure it is properly documented while he is alive.
The Deputy Governor of Anambra state, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim who is a native of the community witnessed the handing over, likewise other traditional rulers.
This is a commendable effort as the Igwe’s compound is so large and with his children all having moved away, the church can make better use of the structures. It is also good that it is being done while the Igwe is still alive to avoid future family litigations and misunderstandings.
