Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, says Gov. Willie Obiano will leave an indelible mark on the sands of Anambra political history, when he leaves office this month.

Achebe said this at the presentation of the book, “Akpokuedike: Duty Calls In Anambra”, at the International Convention Centre (ICC), in Awka, the state capital on Wednesday.

The traditional ruler recalled that he was among the prominent people from Anambra North Senatorial District saddled with the responsibility of narrowing the governorship hopeful in 2013 from the area to three.

He described Obiano’s emergence as a divine providence, adding that his life in the corporate sector made him well prepared for the job.

The Obi said that Obiano set a record of issuing 60 certificates of recognition to traditional rulers during his eight-year reign, which he said was to broker peace in communities that had protracted problems.

He said that the governor supports traditional rulers in ensuring that they hold their meetings and conferences regularly.

Also speaking, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, said that Obiano made a mark on all sectors in the state, thereby leaving it much better than he met it.

Anyaoku described the ICC and other projects executed by Obiano as legacies that would continue to serve the people of Anambra for a long time.

According to him, “I don’t think there is a conference room of this magnitude in the entire Commonwealth.”

An Economist, Prof Osita Ogbu, who reviewed the book, “Akpokuedike: Duty Calls In Anambra”, written by Mr Ike Chioke, the Managing Director of Afri Invest Ltd, said Nigerians must pay attention to the leadership recruitment process.

Ogbu said that the book chronicled the family background, academic history and work life of Obiano which prepared him for the governorship of Anambra.

He said that people should pay proper attention to those they want to put in positions of power and not dance to the tunes played by moneybags.
