IG Of Police Hasty Behavior Coming Up With SWAT Is Very Suspicious.

Many individuals have also decided to remain neutral throughout the ongoing protests. Reno Omokri is one of the thousands of Nigerians whom have decided to be part of the ongoing protests through their social media activities.

It is important to note that Reno’s decision to be part of the end SARS protest through his social media platforms is not a sign of him being a coward. On the contrary, Reno Omokri has always been the mouthpiece of the people. He is one of the very few reputable individuals who isn’t scared to criticize anyone who goes against the will of the people.

Reno Omokri have faulted the recent formation of a new police unit which has been named SWAT. According to Reno Omokri, the speed with which the Inspector General of Police came up with SWAT shortly after the scrapping of the now defunct SARS is very suspicious. Reno Omokri also wondered how the Inspector General of Police could disband SARS one day and come up with SWAT the following day.

In truth, the manner in which SWAT was formed without proper research, consultation, or formation of committee, is highly controversial and undemocratic in nature.

The entire formation of SWAT looks like a rushed name change. In a true democratic setting, when such formation is about to take place, there should be a high level of consultation and recommendation from stakeholders and prominent individuals in the society. The inspector general acted on his own without due consultations.

In truth, the formation of SWAT is completely just a change of name. The officers which will be drafted into the newly formed SWAT will consist of defunct SARS personnels. There is need for the Nigerian government to carefully tackle the deficiencies of the defunct SARS before thinking of establishing a new police unit. What was expected of the Inspector General of Police is to look for ways to reeducate the entire police force on the need to always have respect for human life.

The entire police force needs a complete reevaluation and reform. The entire police personnels should be reformed and the government should focus on ways of improving the salary structures of the Nigerian police personnels, so as to reduce the tendency of police officers engaging in bribery.

The Nigerian police should also undergo training which focuses on the right manner of response during periods of crisis. If policemen knows the right ways of handling crisis or protests, then we will never witness instances where peaceful protesters are being killed for nothing.
