The International Criminal Court has denied former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte’s request for provisional release, ruling that proposed conditions and humanitarian claims were insufficient.

Duterte, 80, is detained in The Hague as he faces three counts of crimes against humanity linked to his deadly war on drugs. Judges said the risks surrounding his interim release were not mitigated, while activists and victims’ families welcomed the decision.
