Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka have lamented over the uphill battle and frustration they are facing in their General Studies (GS) ID card processing.

Most of the 100 Level students have yet to come to terms with the difficulty in obtaining the ID cards which the school management has made a prerequisite for entrance into the venue of GS exam.

One of the students, Okonkwo Michael of Computer Science Department recounted he has been coming for his ID card for over two weeks.

“There has disclosed that there has been too much delay in the process of acquiring the ID card. I guess this is due to manpower shortage”.

“I witness hundreds of students coming to be captured and they go home disappointed because they end up not being captured. It causes fight and stampede”.

Goodnews Ibe another student from Nursing Department has been coming for her ID card for the past one month.

She stated “For people like me who has nobody to call an uncle or aunt, we are finding it very difficult and are really trying hard to pay up, register and acquire their ID cards which will be the only way to gain entrance into exam hall during GS exam.”

Goodnews also revealed that some students, due to frustrations, have given up on getting their ID cards.

However, a staff, Anayo Anizoba, explained that the school management had taken note of the development and is working tirelessly to address the crisis.

According to Anayo, serious efforts are being made to address the challenge.

” The management has procured additional equipment to expedite the resolution of the challenges that have plagued the system.

According to Anizoba, “shortage of machines which has been a major factor for delay has been fixed. There are enough machines now making it faster, which has drastically reduced the population of students standing around this environment compared to what we used to have before.”

Mr Anizoba also highlighted that the postponement of the GS exam is to allow every student to be captured.
