Groups Brainstorm on best ways to engage civil society groups for service delivery in Anambra

Evidence and Collaboration for Inclusive Development, ECID, a United Kingdom-funded project for development is mobilizing Human Rights groups, Ciivil society groups and Advocacy groups in Anambra state on the best ways to deliver services to the poor and marginalized people in the society.

The participating groups includimed Civil Rights Concern (CRC), Justice, Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC, Onitsha, and Hope Givers Initiative, HOG-I .

They focused on a way forward towards lifting the challenges of the poor people and the marginalized people in Anambra state.

The brainstorming session which took place in Awka recently at Finotel hotel was aimed at finding a lasting solution to the lingering educational and health challenges of people living in the riverine areas of the state namely; Awka North, Ayamelum, Ogbaru and Anambra West respectively.

The groups said that people living in riverine areas of Anambra state have been marginalized as a result of heavy flooding which has rendered them educationally and health wise behind the scheme of things in the state.

They said that its key objectives were to help provide adequate health facilities as well as adequately equip the already existing ones through its advocacies.

It also said that the group champions’ for classrooms and adaptability for inclusive education while also working to ensure qualified teaching staff as well as functional electricity and wash facilities.

Speaking at the event, the group’s coordinator Okay Onyeka, said that the essence of the meeting was to review its advocacy strategies as well as chart ways that will enable improved health and education systems.

He said further that improving the inclusive basic services for Peoples with disabilities and the marginalized is a priority.

Onyeka who is the anchor man of CRC, informed further that CRC is known for promoting rights of access in governance and improved realization of human rights and human dignity to enable citizens achieve their human dreams to Development.

He earlier insisted that there is a data gap in planning, hence CRC is advocating for regular updates of data of persons with disability for proper planning. This, he said is key area to address in budget processes.

The project according to the review group is targeted to engage government , adding that the target was to work with Communities, civil society groups , Government institutions and private sectors to develop sustainable data platform that reflects the perspectives and priorities of the poor and marginalized groups.
