…CHRSJ tasks Governor, Security agents over Land-grabbers’ Problems

…Wants Police to remove fake burial ground in Couples’ house in Ibafo

A human right group, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has called on the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and heads of security agents, especially, the Nigeria Police, in the State to take drastic actions on how to curb incessant problems caused by jobless set of people called themselves Land-Grabber (Omo Onile), noting that the subject matter has been the serious problems ravaging the nooks and crannies of the State.

It also urged the authority concerned to come up with drastic action to tackle the menace of land grabbing across the length and breadth of the State, adding that it used to lead to loss of human life and properties.

The call became necessary because of the recent action of some Policemen attached to the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (F.C.I.I.D), Alagbon, Ikoyi Lagos over their connivance with some land grabbers to dispossess of a 89-year old retired teacher, Pa Tajudeen Adeleke Ajikobi with Phone Number:-(+234 8106171779 & +234 9012500242), of  his land.

It further necessitated the CHRSJ’s Petition Letter dated 30th of November, 2020 and signed by its Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman and forwarded to appropriate authorities concern including; Presidency, Ogun State Governor, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Police Service Commission (PSC), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and host of others, calling for their urgent intervention to save the precious life of Pa Ajikobi

The group had earlier accused one Inspector Geoffrey of disregarding a series of judicial pronouncements on the disputed land by siding the

suspects believing to be foreigners to dispossess Pa. Ajikobi of his
ancestral land.

According to Sulaiman; “We have it on good authority that after our

group reported Geoffrey to higher police authorities; he has embarked
upon series of schemes aimed at grabbing the said land from Pa. Ajikobi. This is coming after he has failed to fraudulently obtained money from him(Pa. Ajikobi).

“Pa. Ajikobi has informed us that he (Inspector Geoffrey) has been issuing series of threats to him through his (the policeman’s) phone

number (+234 7056010403) and another number which is an old one which he initially used (+234 8066650675) to call him.” Sulaiman said.

The group stated that the latest in the series of threats came recently when Pa. Ajikobi began to receive numerous calls from him, “threatening him to disembark from a journey that he won’t see the end.

“Geoffrey who claimed to be a top FCIID Alagbon; Annex police officer; employed by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to deal anyhow with any means against anybody he (Geoffrey) feels bad about. To us

this means that he was licensed to take laws into his hands, a clear violation of the rule of law, particularly, fundamental human rights of the citizens and contempt to series of judicial pronouncements

In another related development, after the recent media report of the

Centre on the act of conspiracy between a Divisional Police Officer
(DPO) with Phone number:-+234 8032474787, Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) and Station Officer (SO) attached to Ibafo Divisional Police Station in the State and Land-Grabbers in Ibafo over plan to take over the sold plot of land to a Couple, Mr. and Mrs. Kehinde and Abimbola Oyewale with Phone number:-+234 7060675564/+234 8107858623.

The officers of the Station led by Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) had

swung into action by arresting the Land-grabbers, one Shasamura with phone number:-+234 8131539780 and his brother in crime called “Germany” with phone number:-+234 8061637019, where they have made the confession to the Police that their father corpse was not buried in the area, not to talk of Couple’s piece of land. While the rights group had insisted that the matter  be charged to Court for diligent prosecution of the suspects in order to serve as a deterrent to those land-grabbers and their cohorts.

Although, the Centre had earlier condemned the lackadaisical attitude, dereliction of duty, undemocratic attitude, inhuman and unprofessional conduct and act of conspiracy on the part of  Ibafo DPO and other officers of the division by  protecting the land-grabbers and attackers to erect unknown father’s burial ground in the Couple’s compound after five years of selling the plot of land to the Couple(Oyewales).

The human rights organisation, therefore, demanded from the Police to ensure immediate removal of the fake burial ground built by land-grabbers (Omo Onile); Shasamura, Germany and their cohorts on the Couple’s compound..

CHRSJ on Pa Ajikobi;“Our findings have shown that Pa. Ajkobi’s claim to the land is hereditary being a descendant of one Oladepo Ogundoje who is said to have bought the land situated in Odan-Igbomasa in Agosalsa area of Yewa South Local Government of Ogun State in 1802.

“To affirm his ownership, Pa. Ajikobi had in the past secured three separate judgments in his favour but rather than help him affirm his ownership, men of the FCIID have disregarded the judgments and have gone ahead to harass him in the bid of the other parties to take over the property extra-judicially.” He said.

According to him, Pa. Ajikobi has won the judgments; first in 1995 vide suit number ESGI/265Cl/95 at the Grade 1 Customary Court of Ogun State sitting in Ilaro, the headquarters of Egbado South.

The second judgment was obtained at the state High Court in Ilaro in suit number, HCL/7A/96 delivered by Justice Bode Popoola on Wednesday, 26th of February, 1997.

The third judicial pronouncement was a ruling obtained at the same court in suit number, HCL/7A/96 delivered by Justice Bode Popoola, on Thursday 5th of May, 1998.

Sulaiman in the statement claimed that “Though they (Pa. Ajikobi’s opponents) have failed to appeal the various judicial outcomes, they

have however resulted to self-help which is extra-judicial in their
bid to take over the land illegally.

CHRSJ requested from  the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Police Service Commission (PSC), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to dismiss and prosecute Geoffrey from service with immediate effect for perverting the cause of justice, saying refusal to do so would attract mass action which will be akin to the #Endsars advocacy .

While commending the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Awolowo Ajogun for his efforts to curb the criminal activities to the bearest minimum in the State, praying to God to continue be his (Ajogun) guidance in the service to our father’s  land.
