The wife of the Governor of Oyo State, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, has presented cash and material gifts to the first three babies delivered on Christmas day in the state.

The babies, all girls, were delivered on Saturday in three different state-owned hospitals.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the babies were delivered in the General Hospital, Apata, Jericho Nursing Home and Adeoyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan.

The first Christmas baby, weighing 3kg, was delivered at about 4:15 a.m.

The second baby, weighing 2.8kg, was delivered at about 6:30 a.m. while the third baby, weighing 3.2kg was born at about 8:10 a.m.

Mrs Makinde was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Kafilat Olayiwola at the presentation of the gifts to the parents of the babies in the presence of family members, friends, hospital and government officials.

Makinde said that the gesture was to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ and to celebrate her husband’s birthday, who was also born on Dec. 25.

She called on parents to ensure the proper upbringing of the children.

According to her, many anomalies in the society will be better addressed if parents give proper upbringing to children.

“As we all know, Gov. Seyi Makinde is always concerned about how to put smiles on the faces of people, especially residents of the state and this effort is in line with that.

“My plea to women and nursing mothers is that we all should take good care of our children and pray more for them while also ensuring that they don’t lack proper parental care and upbringing.

“If the children are well brought up at the family level, this is the only way we can have a better and safer society and country.

“Aside from our three Christmas babies that are given gifts, other people who are also receiving medical attention in our hospitals will also get gifts in the spirit of the season and to support their treatment,” Makinde said.

The donation was also extended to the children’s ward in Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan, where food items and toys, among other items, were presented. (NAN)
