Governor Soludo Commends President Buhari On Inauguration Of 1.6 Km Second Niger bridge

Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra State has commended President Mohammadu Buhari for keeping to his campaign promises of completing and delivering of the bridge to the people of the Southeast.

Governor Soludo gave the recommendations at the commissioning of the second Niger Bridge which was held at Asaba, Delta State.

“I am personally over joy, today is a day of joy, we’ve come to express our gratitude, history is being made today, the people of South East have agitated, we’ve complained on about five key infrastructure projects.

“These key five projects were supposed to be game charger to the economy of the Southeast, one of these projects are the dredge of the river niger, the second happens to be the second niger bridge, the third is the expressway that will lead from here directly to Lokoja and the fourth is the gas pipeline and the fifth obviously is the railway line.

“Of these five, its our pleasure that we have come to tick good to one of them and a major one at that, and that is the second niger bridge”, he said.

President Mohammadu Buhari has on Tuesday commissioned the 1.6 second Niger bridge named after him, the bridge linking Asaba and Onitsha in Delta and Anambra States.

President Buhari who performed the commissionig via zoom, said that the second Niger bridge would improve the economic activities of the area.

According to him, the projects that we handover today sympathizes our country sharp focus on delivering prosperity, the second Niger bridge will facilitate transport connectivity within the region.

“Those crossing the niger bridge will no longer experience gridlock as it will help to improve the socioeconomic activities of the southeast.

“In eight years, i am proud to say that we have developed Nigeria stock of infrastructure to Gross Domestic Products (GDP) from about 20 per cent to over 40 per cent and that is not small under taken”, he said.

The president, while speaking on the reason the second Niger bridge was named after him, he said he was not consulted before the bridge was name after him.

In his remarks, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State said that the the bridge would help boost the nation’s economy and also help in the else of doing business between Delta and Anambra.

Okowa, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Ovie Agas, said that the second Niger bridge would create jobs and enhance economic growth within the two states.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Julius Berger, Dr Lars Richter, said that it was an honour for them to be part of this success story of delivering the second Niger bridge to the people of Delta and Anambra States.
