French village bans use of tap water for cleaning teeth amid drought

Local Authorities on Tuesday,  banned  residents of a village in southern France from using tap water to clean their teeth.

This,  it said, was due to  drought that may have made the water  unfit for human consumption.

Instead, residents were told they could  pick up bottles of water in the town hall.

The local authorities explained that the ban had been introduced for hygiene reasons; due to drought conditions, water currently was being delivered by tankers, which could affect its quality.

The region was also undergoing a heat wave, with Bargemon warning residents that temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius.

It noted that access to large natural areas had been severely restricted due to an increased danger of wildfires. (dpa/NAN)
