Foundation empowers youths with N100,000 start-up capital

A humanitarian organisation known as Sir and Lady Goodluck Obi Foundation (SLGOF) on Sunday in Lagos empowered some youths with N100,000 start-up capital, to encourage youths to be  self-reliant and focused.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos reports that SLGOF has been in the business of helping indigent persons with scholarships, empowering artisans, widows and building worship centres across the country.

Some of the youths, Mr Blessing Obiano, Ms Enuobi Adenike, Mr Monday Akosa, Ms Angela Egwu and others,  were presented with cheques for the start-up empowerment by Mr Goodluck Etom-Obi at the event.

NAN reports that the event was held at the Archbishop Abiodun Adetiloye Memorial Anglican Church, Ajao Estate, Lagos state.

The foundation also hosted the congregation to a feast as an appreciation to God for successful business ventures and family.

The church recognised the foundation’s Director, Obi,  with an Ambassador of “Hours of Blessing” award for his kind gesture.

In his message during the thanksgiving service, the officiating Cleric and Vicar of the Church, Rev.Hezekiah Olu-Osundeyi, said that service to humanity should be a pre-occupation of every Christian.

“Our sojourn on earth is transient and should be hinged on what one is able to do for humanity and society.

“It is expected of us as human to see others as regular human beings created by God.

“Our brother’s organisatio, Sir and Lady Goodluck Obi Foundation, has been doing great within its community.

“He is not the richest among us but as a practical Christian, he has through the foundation assisted many and in return God has been benevolent to him,” he said.

Speaking at the event, the Director of the foundation, Mr Goodluck Etom-Obi, said that he was being driven by empathy for suffering people.

Obi described the act of giving to the needy as an injunction from the scriptures that people should imbibe to attract God’s benevolence.

“Since I began the foundation six years ago,  both my family and business lives are soaring. We can not work for God without Him doing something for you.

“We have numerous pro-life projects in Lagos and Nnewi in Anambra that we are trusting God to enable us complete them.

“At the moment, we are building a pro-cathedral for a community in Anambra where the people do not have any  worship centre,” he said.

The Nnewi philanthropist said that funding of the projects had been from his personal earnings from his sports and gym equipment business and advised the receipients to always hold on to God and remain focused in their choosen businesses.

In her response, one of the beneficiaries, Adenike, thanked the foundation for the gesture and said it would aid her to buy some of the equipment she lacked in her hairdressing  salon. (NAN)
