Federal Polytechnic Oko Hosts Tax Quiz Competition, Win Major Prizes

The Department of Accountancy, Federal Polytechnic Oko today the 26th of June 2025 played host to the Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT), an arm of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). The visit of the SWIT members are in consonance with their programmes of sensitising the students and the general public in the area of taxation and related issues. The highlight of the visit is the tax quiz competition organized for the students of four tertiary institutions in Anambra state Viz Federal Polytechnic Oko, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam. Out of 15 competitors from the four schools, the following emerged winners from the tax quiz moderated by the SWIT team;

1st position: Miss Ozoemelam Amarachi D. of the department of Accountancy, Federal Polytechnic Oko.
2nd position: Miss Agwuncha Pauline C. of the department of Accountancy, Federal Polytechnic Oko.
3rd position: Miss Ezenwobi Chinasa Prisca of the department of Accounting Education, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze.
4th position: Miss Imafidon Favour O. of the department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic Oko.
5th position: Master Mbaegbu Ifeanyi L. of the department of Accountancy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka .
Earlier on, the visitors in company of the HOD Department of Accountancy paid a courtesy visit to the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie who expressed delight in hosting the visitors and appreciated them for mentoring the students. The Rector reiterated her drive to move the institution forward and promised to support the Tax Club of Federal Polytechnic Oko in any of their programs.
During the visit, the Head Department of Accountancy Dr. Emmanuel C. Ezenwafor praised the transformative efforts of the Rector and also thanked her for the support she has always extended to the department whenever called upon. A former Head of the Department of Accountancy, Federal Polytechnic Oko Dr. Mbonu Chikwelu who also doubles as the Chairman of the Awka District Society of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) appreciated the Rector for her prompt approvals for hosting of the event/ visitors and also reminded the Rector of the need to mount a Department of Taxation for the institution.

The Anambra state coordinator of SWIT Dr. Eseosa Mbachu who led the team appreciated the department of Accountancy for incubating and nurturing the Tax Club in federal Polytechnic Oko.
Tax club of Federal Polytechnic Oko is the first tax club to be registered in Anambra State. The coordinator extended her great appreciation to the Rector of the Polytechnic for accepting to play host to her team and the program.
A similar event was hosted by the department of Accountancy Federal Polytechnic Oko last two years 2023 where students from the Polytechnic also emerged victorious.
