Rep. Olumide Ojerinde(APC- Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency) of Oyo State, on Wednesday empowered no fewer than 300 constituents with different tools worth millions of naira.

The empowerment programme took place in Igboho, Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the programme is one of the intervention programmes of the lawmaker to support his constituents and boost their fortunes economically.

Empowerment materials distributed include deep freezers, motorcycles, generators, among others.

Ojerinde said his interventions had changed the socio-economic and political narrative in the federal constituency, promising not to disappoint his constituents.

“Today, we are gathered here to present to you items to help you in your line of business, thereby improving the quality of life and your standard of living.

“These items would go a long way in empowering you,” Ojerinde told the beneficiaries.

Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari (APC- Oyo North), commended Ojerinde for the intervention, saying that the empowerment programme was capable of giving hope to the people of the constituency.

“The only thing that you can do to your consistuency is to give what is called the dividends of democracy.

“These are the people that run around for us. These are the people that have hope in you. So, what you give them gives them hope.

“Ojerinde is doing well in the House of Representatives. As a first timer, he has a bill. I was at the public hearing of his bill. That’s really fantastic,” Buhari said.

Buhari, who was the chairman of the occasion, decried lack of federal presence in Oyo North Senatorial District.

He demanded support on the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology Oke-Ogun Bill awaiting presidential assent.

“I sponsored a bill (Federal University of Agriculture and Technology Oke-Ogun). It has been passed in the two chambers.

“The two chambers have approved it. It went to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the SGF has sent it to the President.

“There is no day I don’t pray for the presidential assent, because I don’t have power over that. The only thing I beg the people of Oyo North is for them to pray God that the president sign the bill that we duly deserve,” he said.

The legislator said that there was no Federal College or federal institution in the whole of Oyo North with 13 local governments.

“Senatorial districts with less population and local governments have federal government presence. So, I am eager to ensure that the president assents the bill,” he said.

Mr Femi Alao, APC chieftain from Irepo, described Ojerinde as an exemplary lawmaker who was impacting positively on the lives of the people.

Some of the beneficiaries praised the lawmaker for giving back to the society and assisting them in improving their standard of living.(NAN)
