Federal Colleges of Education to Begin Awarding Bachelor’s Degrees
The Federal Government has begun implementing the Dual Mandate Policy, allowing all Federal Colleges of Education (FCOEs) to award both the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education.
The move, enabled by the Federal Colleges of Education Act 2023 and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, marks a major step in overhauling teacher education in Nigeria.
Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa called it a “revolution” in teacher training, noting it will improve access and teaching quality nationwide. Colleges that meet National Universities Commission standards can now operate under the dual system.
