FCCPC, SON collaborate for consumer interest, protection

Apex consumer protection agency in Nigeria, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) have established collaboration for improved consumer protection in Anambra State and by extension, Southeast.

The Zonal coordinator, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, Mr. Anthony Nwafor established the collaboration when he visited Regional Director of Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON, Mr. Don-Pedro Ebenezer in his office in Awka.

During the visit, Mr. Nwafor, disclosed that FCCPC, an agency of the Federal Government, is mandated to ensure competitive market, protect and promote consumer’s interest among other mandates.

While emphasizing on the need for collaboration and partnership between FCCPC and SON, as both are regulatory agencies that see to the protection of Nigerian consumers, Mr. Nwafor, further named other mandates of the commission, established under the FCCP Act of 2018 to include promotion of choices, ensuring fairness towards protecting the interest of consumers among others.

He also sought for synergy on joint sensitization of consumers, enforcement in market places and much more.

Welcoming the team, Mr. Ebenezer, who also unveiled their mandate, which also included ensuring quality products and services for the consumers, assured that SON, as a regulatory body that sets the standard for both locally produced and imported goods, is willing to partner FCCPC in removing, as well as stopping to a large extent, the circulation of fake and substandard goods from Nigerian markets.

Exchange of educational materials between the agencies, and tour of facilities within SON premises, climaxed the visit.
