FCCP to partner FRSC for consumer protection

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCP) will partner Federal Roads Safety Commission in sensitizing road users, motorists and the public on consumer protection.

The partnership was agreed, recently, when the South-east zonal coordinator, Mr. Nwafor Anthony Izunna, paid a courtesy visit to the Anambra State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Corps Commander Irelewunyi A. in his Awka office.

In his speech, Mr. Nwafor stated that FCCPC as a federal agency was established under the FCCP Act of 2018 with mandate to promote and protect the consumers’ interest.

He further mentioned other mandates of the Commission to include; to promote choices, ensure fairness towards protecting the interest of the consumers among others.

He stated that the Commission was established to organise or undertake campaigns and other forms of activities capable of promoting increased private and public consumer awareness.

He stated that FCCPC seeks to synergise with FRSC for a joint sensitisation campaign to the consumers, especially motorists and other road users.

Responding, the Corps Commander, Irelewunyi, assured the FCCPC team of his commission’s willingness to collaborate in any way possible through the Corps’ annual rally and awareness creation platforms to ensure that roads are free from crashes during the Ember months and other festive seasons throughout the nation.

Highlights of the visit include the exchange of educational materials from both agencies, general sensitization of the officers and men of the command on the mandates and functions of the commission by the FCCPC team as well as questions and answers.
