FACULTY OF BIOSCIENCES CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE MAIDEN EDITION OF THE UNIZIK FIVE ASIDE FOOTBALL

The Faculty of Biosciences has been crowned champions of the maiden edition of the UNIZIK Five Aside Football Competition bankrolled by the Chief Executive Officer, Gapsline Limited, Mr. Roy Princewill.

A solitary strike in the 77th minute by Kennedy Onyewuchi, a Technologist 1 in the Department of Applied Biochemistry, ensured that his side emerged victorious in the competition seeing off the Faculty of Art in the finals of the competition held at the playing surface of the Festus Aghagbo Nwako Library in a Championship featuring 14 Faculties and Units of the institution.

Reacting to the win, an elated Dean, Faculty of Biosciences, Prof. Stanley Udedi described the victory as a good one for the Faculty attributing the success recorded to grace following the Faculty. Prof. Udedi disclosed that the victory was also a result of team spirit, hardwork and dedication by teaching and non-teaching staff of the Faculty in all spheres of endeavour keying to the vision of ‘Project 200’ of the present administration under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, FPSN.

The Professor of Biochemistry stated that the Faculty is committed towards achieving excellence in academics, publications, sports and other areas, by doing everything positively possible to overtake the set target of ‘Project 200’. He congratulated the players for the feat.

On his part, the Director of Sports in the Faculty, Dr. Ifeanyi Ike Mulumba stated that the day is a special day in the annals of the history of Biosciences Faculty in sports competition. He described the success as a result of hardwork and support of the Dean of the Faculty. Mulumba thanked the organizers for the noble idea of five aside football competition which is aimed at uniting members of staff of the institution while also commending them for exhibiting element of fair play and justice in the course of the competition.

Earlier on, the Faculty of Engineering worked over the Faculty of Agriculture to emerge as the third placed team. High points of the finals was the decoration of the top three teams with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as well as presentation of set of Jerseys to the teams.
