Experts, Stakeholders Brainstorm, Seek More Awareness From Media Towards Eradication of Tuberculosis In Nigeria

Experts, Media and Stakeholders have met in a Media roundtable on the Nigeria Tuberculosis (TB) response in Nigeria.

The event was organized by Palladium under the Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE) project, in partnership with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program (NTBLCP). The event took place last Friday at Golden Tulip Hotel, Port-Harcourt in Rivers State.

Director-General Portharcourt Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines Mr. Erasmus Chukunda, TB Program Manager Delta State, Dr. Baka Francis, Engr. Tutor Fulbel, Dr. Jublick Maxwell Joseph and Dr. Bassy Akpan, while speaking at the event, commended the agencies for organizing the event.

They highlighted the importance of sensitization, urging philanthropist, community leaders, and all relevant agencies to join hands to identify and tackle the problem.

The speakers advised Nigerians to pay more attention to their health, stating that early treatment is vital. They called for proper documentation of a database for TP patients and treatment centres.

www.odogwublog.com reports that the SCALE project is a 5-year project (Oct. 2020 – Oct. 2025) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Palladium.

The project strengthens the financial, management, and advocacy capacity of local civil society organizations to create a more accountable, transparent, peaceful, and democratic Nigeria, with more effective and efficient public service delivery.

The SCALE TB workstream aims for an improved TB focused CSOs’ capacity for effective advocacy, collaboration, and coordination in mobilizing domestic support for TB and advocating for TB budget allocation, release, and spending efficient TB service delivery at national and subnational levels.

SCALE has identified the role of the media in contributing to the achievement of galvanizing domestic support for TB service delivery. The media engagement provides the platform for interaction between the private sector, government, and CSOs with an expected outcome of actionable commitment by stakeholders in support of the Nigeria TB program.
