Anambra Govt collaborates with NCDC, UNICEF in fight against COVID-19

Dr Vincent Okpala, Anambra State Commissioner for Health, says the state will continue to collaborate with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), UNICEF and other partners in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Okpala disclosed this during a visit by representatives of NCDC and UNICEF in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.

The commissioner commended them for their support to the state on active, community case-search and sensitisation of Ndi Anambra on COVID-19.

He assured them of discussing their request for support with the State Government and noting that their request was timely.

Leader of the team, Dr Chijioke Obagha said that the aim of their visit was to brief the commissioner on modalities for active and community case-search on COVID-19.

Dr Obagha, the State Epidemiologist, explained that the search involved house to house visit by the State Rapid Response Team, NCDC and other partners.

He also noted that the team would go with checklist, which would contain vital questions to ask individuals during the search.

“Infrared thermometer will also be used to check individual’s temperature. World Development Committee Chairmen and Officer In-Charge of healthcare facilities are included for easy identification.’’

The UNICEF representative in the state, Mr Diden Gbofeyin commended people of the state for observing all measures as given by NCDC and WHO to prevent COVID-19.

“In all the communities that we visited, there were buckets and soaps for hand washing.’’
