Environmental sustainability: Dobe Anambra Ocha Initiative takes campaign to Awka residents

The Dobe Anambra Ocha Initiative, ably led by Ernest Obinna Okafor, today took its environmental sensitisation campaign to the streets of Awka, engaging residents and road users on the importance of maintaining a clean, healthy and environmentally friendly city.
With a team of over 30 individuals comprising students, youths and other volunteers, the initiative moved through different parts of Awka, interacting directly with citizens and creating awareness on the need for responsible environmental practices.
The team was seen on the streets carrying out sensitisation activities, encouraging residents to properly dispose of their waste, keep their surroundings clean and develop a stronger sense of responsibility towards the environment.
The exercise also emphasised that maintaining a clean city is not solely the responsibility of government or environmental agencies, but a collective responsibility that requires the participation of every citizen.
Beyond the physical cleaning of the environment, the initiative sought to promote a change in attitude and everyday habits.
Through direct engagement with members of the public, the team reminded citizens that simple actions such as avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse, keeping drainage channels clear and properly managing household and commercial waste can make a significant difference in the appearance and overall wellbeing of the city.
The presence of the over 30-member team, particularly the involvement of students and young people, also underscored the importance of youth participation in building a cleaner and more sustainable Anambra.
The Dobe Anambra Ocha Initiative media team, through the stakeholders actions, demonstrated that environmental responsibility begins with individuals and communities.
Their sensitisation drive across Awka represents a call for citizens to take ownership of their surroundings and contribute to making the city cleaner, healthier and more environmentally friendly.
