Enugwu-Ukwu Community Pledges United Front In The Interest Of Peace

Enugwu-Ukwu community in Njikoka local government area of Anambra have pledged to continue to toe the path of peace in the interest of overall development of the community.

In a communique issued on Monday, 21st December, 2020, after a high level stakeholders deliberations involving the traditional ruler of the town, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, the President General of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU), Bonny Ozo Nkwuaku, members of the traditional cabinet, Board of ECDU Patrons, Board of ECDU Trustees, Enugwu-Ukwu Youth Council, and ECDU Women’s Wing, the stakeholders collectively reached the following resolutions and asked the people of the community to abide by the resolutions; (1) Acceptance of tenure extension of the present ECDU executive by the Anambra state government from 8th January 2021 to 31st August, 2021. (2) ECDU Central Executive shall carry everyone along in their activities (3) Agitations for fairness and equity by groups, individuals, quarters and villages should be forwarded to the Enugwu-Ukwu Constitution Review Committee set up by ECDU. (4) Posts in ECDU’s social media platforms should be strictly managed by administrators. Posts intended for the platforms should be sent to the administrators.
(5) Enugwu-Ukwu people are enjoined to embrace peace and cooperate with all institutions of the community in the interest of harmony, development and progress.

Speaking to the ABS, Nze Ebuka Ifeacho, an Enugwu-Ukwu indigene, said that the peace moves was timely and a welcome development, “Our people are coming home for Christmas celebrations and they want to celebrate in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. I thank all the stakeholders including Eze Enugwu-Ukwu and the PG for their commitment to maintain the peace we enjoy in our town”.

Also speaking, Prof. Onyi Oguno, a Professor of Law at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, and a cabinet Chief in Enugwu-Ukwu called on Ndi Enugwu-Ukwu to continue to respect and cooperate with the institutions in the community. “The resolutions reached at the peace meeting by critical Enugwu-Ukwu stakeholders will help the town to remain united. Our efforts now should be focused on development issues, now that we have the bickering behind us”.

The communique concluded with best wishes to the Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke who is an indigene of the town, and the traditional ruler, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh.
