Enugu Govt Pledges Crackdown on Illegal Revenue Taskforce

The Enugu State Government has vowed to investigate and arrest individuals operating an unauthorized revenue taskforce allegedly extorting scavengers in the state.
Speaking in Enugu on Tuesday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, condemned the activities of the illegal group, assuring that those involved would face legal action.
While acknowledging that a committee had been set up by the government to address issues related to scavengers, Onyia clarified that no official taskforce had been authorized for revenue collection in environmental matters.
“We will investigate and identify those behind this illegal taskforce. We have substantial evidence, and we are working to trace where the collected funds were deposited,” Onyia stated.
He warned residents not to pay money to any individual or group claiming to be government-appointed revenue collectors.
Furthermore, Governor Peter Mbah has directed that all illegally collected funds be recovered immediately.
