About four days after the mass killings at Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State by suspected Fulani herdsmen, the Governor of the State, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has visited the community, expressing shock and promising to beef up security in the area.
The invaded communities include Agu-Amede, Mgbuji and Aboh communities all in Ehamufu.
The governor arrived at the scene of the mayhem at about 7 pm, Friday, November 25, 2022, with a team of his security personnel and later addressed the surviving residents.
Speaking to members of the victim communities, majority of who are now taking refuge in urban and neighbouring communities, the governor said he was shocked to the marrows as he went round the attacked communities.
He described the attack as senseless, unwarranted, grossly inhuman and barbaric, promising to beef up security not only in the area but also throughout the state.
While commending one of the communities hosting members of the displaced people, Gov. Ugwuanyi promised to send relief materials and cash to them assuring that they would be adequately protected.
Meanwhile, towns and villages within the environs of the attack communities have continued to experience an upsurge of internally displaced people (IDP’s) who now throng the safe grounds in their droves.
During the earlier hours of last Saturday, 19 and Monday 21, November 2022, gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders had launched separate attacks on the said communities killings several persons and burning the people’s houses and farm products worth millions of Naira.
Situations in the areas are still very dicey as people are currently fleeing the attacked communities and adjoining neighbours.
As of the time of this report, the influx of IDPs to the urban centres continues while others are fleeing to metropolitan areas such as Enugu, Nsukka, Nnewi and even as far as Onitsha.
In the interim, no less than twenty-five corpses have been recovered while the search for missing persons is still ongoing.
