Catholic Television of Nigeria (CTV) has celebrated two significant milestones — 15 years of broadcasting and one year of successful transmission on GOTV Channel 115 — reaffirming its commitment to faith-based programming, family values and national development.

At a press briefing in Abuja, the management of the television station said the anniversary marks a moment of gratitude, reflection and renewed commitment to serving Nigerians through quality and uplifting media content.

CTV stated that since its establishment in 2010, the station has remained dedicated to its founding vision of promoting “a world where the love of God and neighbour reigns supreme.”

The organisation added that its mission remains to become “Africa’s most powerful and effective media organisation through professionalism, balanced reporting and religious spirituality.”

According to the station, what began as a bold step to evangelise through the media under the leadership of former Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has grown into a respected platform for faith, family values and national development across Nigeria and beyond.

Speaking during the briefing, CTV officials noted that over the past fifteen years, the station has played a pioneering role in Catholic broadcasting in Nigeria by producing family-friendly programmes, airing soul-lifting music, and bringing the Holy Mass, Catholic doctrines and the social teachings of the Church to viewers.

The station said it has also contributed to promoting peace and unity in the country through balanced reporting, interfaith dialogue programmes and coverage of civic activities.

“It continues to build bridges across religious and ethnic lines,” the management stated.

CTV highlighted its role in moral and spiritual formation through several programmes aimed at inspiring hope, strengthening values and deepening faith among viewers.

The television station also celebrated one year of migration to GOTV Channel 115, describing the move as a strategic decision that has widened access to wholesome and faith-based programming for millions of Nigerians.

According to the management, CTV moved from Trefoil/NigComSat Free-to-Air to GOTV Channel 115 on March 13, 2025, in order to make Catholic content more accessible and affordable to the average Nigerian household.

The station said the results have been remarkable.

“Within one year, viewership has grown by over 300 percent daily, with CTV now reaching an estimated eight million viewers across Africa,” the management disclosed.

Officials described the development as evidence of the growing demand for positive, informative and spiritually enriching content on television.

They added that the lower cost of access through GOTV has helped more homes connect with programmes that promote moral values and the common good.

CTV expressed appreciation to several institutions and partners whose support has sustained the station over the years.

“We express profound gratitude to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria for visionary leadership and unwavering support since inception,” the management said.

The station also thanked the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, led by Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, for its continued encouragement and backing.

In addition, CTV commended MultiChoice Nigeria for partnering with the station and believing in the value of faith-based broadcasting.

Management further acknowledged viewers, donors, staff members and volunteers for their dedication, prayers and sacrifices in keeping the station on air.

The station said the 15th anniversary celebration is not only about past achievements but also about looking ahead to greater impact in the future.

CTV disclosed plans to expand its programming with more indigenous language content, wider coverage of Church and community events, and stronger digital evangelisation strategies.

The organisation said it hopes to continue using modern technology to reach younger audiences and Nigerians in the diaspora.

As part of activities to commemorate the double celebration, CTV announced an anniversary and award ceremony scheduled for April 30, 2026, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Event Centre, Maitama, Abuja.

According to the organisers, the event will begin with Holy Mass at 6 p.m., followed immediately by the award ceremony.

The management invited media partners, supporters, clergy, religious and members of the public to participate in the celebration.

“We thank you for telling our story and we look forward to seeing you at the event,” the organisers said.

The press briefing was signed by the Executive Director of Catholic Television of Nigeria, Very Rev. Fr. Patrick Alumuku, PhD, and Chairperson of the National Planning Committee, Barr. Dr. Princess Frank-Chukwuani.

As CTV marks fifteen years of broadcasting, the station says it remains committed to truth, hope, human dignity and service to society through responsible media.
