CP Oji Ama Advocates Culture-Based Approach to People-Centred Policing
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has called for greater understanding and respect for the culture, traditions and values of the people as a key requirement for effective and people-oriented policing.
CP Oji Ama made the call on Sept. 3, when he received the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr. Law Mefor, and the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Udoji Amedu, during their courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Awka.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists. According to the CP, policing should not be limited to enforcing laws, stressing that a sound knowledge of the cultural heritage, traditions, values and peculiarities of the people would enable the police to serve and protect them more effectively.
He also advocated stronger and sustained cooperation among the Police, relevant government ministries, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders. Such collaboration, he said, would help build public confidence, improve community engagement and promote lasting peace and security across Anambra State.
The CP further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to its open-door policy and strategic partnerships aimed at deepening trust, cooperation and understanding between the Police and residents of the state.
In their response, the visiting commissioners commended the command for its continued efforts to strengthen security and safeguard lives and property across the state. They pledged to sustain collaboration with the Police in advancing peace and security, promoting positive value reorientation and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Anambra State.
