CP assures Enugu residents of adequate security on Independence Day

Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Lawal Abubakar, has assured collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure adequate security in the state during and after the 61st Independence Day Anniversary.

Abubakar said this on Thursday in a statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, in Enugu.

According to the commissioner, the command will ensure that lives and properties of citizens are protected and activities scheduled for the celebration executed unhindered.

He also said that the command had made adequate and strategic deployments to prevent adverse situations before, during and after the period of the celebration.

“In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Baba Usman, I have ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Commanders of Tactical/Operational Units/Formations of the Command to embark on aggressive crime-prevention and visibility patrols of their areas of responsibility.

“They are to ensure that venues of the anniversary celebrations, residential areas, critical public infrastructures and places of resort are intensely patrolled as well as prevent untoward activities of criminal elements,” he said.

Abubakar, however, felicitated with Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the good people of the state on the occasion of the Independence Anniversary commemoration.

He called on residents to pursue peace with one another and exhibit brotherly love, in view to overcoming existing security challenges.

The commissioner appealed to residents of the state to remain vigilant, law abiding and go about their lawful businesses as well as celebrate the anniversary in the most peaceful manner.

“I will solicit the support of residents to the police and other security agencies as they collaborate to ensure public security and safety in the state.

“Residents should promptly report criminals and their activities to the nearest police station.
