Covid-19: Prof. Joy Ezeilo Distributes protective materials to health workers in Enugu

The Women’s Aid Collective (WACOL) will be distributing Safety materials to vulnerable communities in Enugu state. This is part of effort to create awareness on the prevalent of the coronavirus otherwise known as COVID -19 pandemic currently ravaging the globe.
The objective is to stem the spread of the virus among the inaccessible areas including community health centers, selected markets, artisan areas as well as the Hausa community around the metropolis as well as the hinterlands.
We are taking this initiative because we realize that residents of Enugu state especially the artisan communities are ignorant of COVID-19 and have continued to carry out their normal daily activities unperturbed by the global crisis.
WACOL is concerned that despite all efforts by local, state, and federal government as well as CSOs including radio jingles and social media enlightenments, citizens are still treating the issue of COVID -19 as a myth rather than a major health emergency.
Therefore, this effort from WACOL is a safety measure aimed at complimenting the effort of government, and to close the foreseeable gaps towards curbing the spread of the virus. We shall be distributing personal and community protective materials including; buckets with taps, hand sanitizers and antiseptic soaps etc., to the poor and most vulnerable groups across the city.
Of course, we will do that with minimal number of persons and maintain social distance.
Consequently, we enjoin Nigerians to continue to take proactive steps and abide by all the safety tips as directed by relevant MDAs, in other to save this country from imminent calamity.
It is disheartening, and laughable that despite all these efforts by government, CSOs and concerned individuals, majority of the citizens still

view COVID-19 as exclusively reserved for the aristocrats. Efforts should be made to counter this assumption and other conspiracy theories making the rounds.
It is in our best interest as individuals and corporate organization to understand this pandemic as a human disaster and tackle it with both all seriousness. As an organization we are taking responsibility through massive social media engagements, radio jingles.
We are also following up with increase in cases of Domestic Violence which has been exacerbated by the diminishing means of livelihood for family due to the lockdown policy of government as a result of the pandemic.
Although our offices are closed to minimize our staff contracting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) or transmitting to others. The closure is important and also deemed necessary so as to comply with the Federal and State Governments’ directives to further contain the spread of the COVID- 19 outbreak currently ravaging the world, including Nigeria.

situation calls for timeous and proactive measures.
