Covid-19 Lockdown: Commercial activities resume in Nnewi

Commercial activities resumed on Monday in the industrial town of Nnewi, Anambra State following the reopening of markets.

As early as 7.00am, market leaders were seen taking strategic positions to implement the directives given to them by the government.

Vehicular movements which were reduced to near zero during the lockdown also increased as many people were seen trooping to their duty posts.

Government offices in the industrial town were also opened for business but it is only the senior officers who were seen around.

The chairman of Fairly Used Motorcycle Dealers Association (FUMDA) Mr Eloka Ubajekwe who was also on ground to enforce government directive said anybody without the facemask will not be allowed into the market.

Ubajekwe said it is not just about having facemask but everyone is expected to put on their facemasks while transacting business.

The chairman of FUMDA revealed that special taskforce has been put in place to apprehend offenders.

He appealed to business men and women in Nnewi to embrace the hygenic life style introduced by the government in the wake of Convid 19.

A businessman, Tochukwu Ejiofor said it is a thing of joy that the markets are reopened nothing that the lockdown period has not been funny to many people, traders inclusive.

He expressed the preparedness of the business community to abide by the government directive for reopening of the market.

“The Anambra State government has actually trained some of our members on prevention of the spread of coronavirus before the markets are opened for business. We will cooperate with the trained officers and ensure that water, soaps and sanitizer are placed at strategic locations. The social distancing directive would also be implemented.” He said.
