COVID-19: Anambra Lawmakers Call For More COVID-19 Treatment Sensitisation 

Lawmakers in Anambra state has called on the state government to intensify efforts at educating residents on the measures for treatment of COVID-19 virus.

The lawmakers made the call on Tuesday during a house plenary at the Assembly complex in Awka, calling on the state government to, in addition to their effort to combat the spread of the virus in the state, further disseminate information for persons who may have contracted the dreaded virus.

Speaking on the motion moved by member representing Aniocha II constituency, Hon Ejike Ikechukwu, the speaker, Hon Uche Okafor, said that COVID-19 had ravaged and killed people on a daily basis worldwide which is a call to concern.

Okafor, who assured that the state government was doing enough to combat the virus, advised the public to strictly adhere to the precautionary measures to avoid contracting the virus.

Earlier, while presenting the motion, Hon Ejike Okechukwu said many had died due to complications from the spread of the virus as a result of ignorance and inadequate knowledge on the treatment of the virus.

Okechukwu, who earlier survived COVID-19 scare, said there was need for the government to disseminate the necessary information to the public especially persons with the symptoms of the virus on ways to overcome the ailments after contraction.

Contributing, member representing Dunukofia constituency, Hon Lawrence Ezeudu, called the state government to provide enabling facilities to hospitals in the state to cater for the treatment of the virus. Ezeudu, who also stressed the importance of COVID-19 treatment information, to the public said that capacity in managing COVID-19 symptoms was needed in all the certified hospitals in the state.

Meanwhile, Hon Smart Okafor, representing Nnewi North constituency, while extolling the state government effort in tackling the spread of the virus, urged for improved efforts to disseminate information as “the public hear what to do to avoid contracting the virus instead of also getting information on the remedy to the situation when contracted.”
