A Makurdi Upper Area Magistrates’ Court 2 has remanded two men in correctional centre for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, armed robbery and culpable homicide.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendants included Gundu Terfa and his alleged accomplice, one Terfa Iordyem
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Veronica Shaagee, told the court on Monday that the case was received at DZ Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department on April 1, 2020.

Shaagee said that on March 19, 2020, one Hurordoo Apev of Agase Ward, behind Federal Government Girls’ College, Gboko, reported the case at Operation Zenda Crack Team Gboko.
She said that on March 19, 2020 some armed men invaded Apev’s residence, attacked and macheted his mother, Comfort, and one Orhembaga Aleva.
She said the accused also made away with N100,000 cash and a cellphone, belonging to Comfort, adding that both victims sustained injuries during the attack.

“The complainant stated further that his mother died on March 17, 2020 at the General Hospital, Gboko, as a result of the injuries she sustained during the attack,” Shaagee said.
She said that one Aondofa Akase, popularly called Wanbaha, who was arrested in connection with the crime, confessed committing the crime.
She said that police later arrested Iordyem, popularly called Hitler, during its investigation.
She said the two were currently facing trial over the crime.

Shaagee said the defendants contravened Sections 97, 248 and 222 of the penal codes, Law of Benue State 2004 and 1(1) (2a) and (2b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act 2004.

However, when the case came up for mention on Monday, no plea was taken because the Magistrate, Rose Iorshe, said the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
Iorshe remanded the accused persons at the Federal Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to Sept. 24 for further mention. (NAN)
