Couple arraigned for alleged disturbance of public peace

Mrs Ndidi Uzogo and Mr Chibuike, were on Thursday arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court, Zuba, Abuja, for alleged disturbance of public peace.
The prosecuting counsel, Chinedu Ogada told the court that a team of policemen led by ASP David Passa, all of Zuba Divisional Headquarters arrested the defendants on May 2.
Ogada said while the police were on crime prevention patrol on Church Road, Zuba they saw Uzogo, Chibuike alongside his brother Basil and wife, Njideka engaging themselves in a fight.
He said that they all sustained injuries as a result, adding that Uzogo and his wife Njideka whom were on Administrative bail did not come to court.
The prosecution counsel alleged that the family engaged themselves in a fight over arguments of their late sister’s property.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of section 113 of the Penal Code.
Chibuike however told the court that he was only trying to separate his wife from fighting with his brother’s wife and got caught in the middle.
The defendants, pleaded not guilty to the charge against them.
The Magistrate, Abdullaziz Ismail admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with one surety each, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Ismail ordered the police to arrest the other couple who did not appear and bring them to court.
He adjourned the case until May 23, for a hearing.
