Corps members urged to uphold principles of transparency, accountability

The CSO Media Accountability and Anti-corruption Initiative (CMAAI), a coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and Media practitioners, has urged corps members to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability in their conduct and activities during their service year and beyond.
This call was made during a sensitization campaign by the CMAAI to Batch B Stream II corps members at the Anambra State Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu.

Addressing the corps members, CMAAI Anambra State Team Lead, Ugochi Freeman, emphasized that transparency and accountability are essential components of good governance and development.
She encouraged corps members to reorient their values towards leadership integrity, and to identify and challenge personal biases that may contribute to corruption.

“As Corp members, we are leaders in our communities. Our actions and decisions have a significant impact on those we serve. That’s why integrity and transparency are essential.
“Corruption, in any form, undermines trust, compromises service delivery, and negatively impacts community development. We must recognize that corruption starts with small actions, like absenteeism or falsification of records.

“So, what can we do? First, let’s reorient our values towards leadership integrity, transparency, and accountability. We must identify and challenge personal biases that may contribute to corruption.”
“As corps members, you have a critical role to play in this fight, and I urge you to take the lead in championing accountability and campaigning against corruption in your different places of primary assignments (PPA) and society at large,” she said.

The CMAAI’s initiative is part of a broader effort aimed to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability among corps members, empowering them to become change agents in the fight against corruption.
The campaign is part of the Rule of Law and Anti-corruption (RoLAC) Phase II component three programme targeted at eradicating corruption and promoting good governance in the society.

The programme is supported by the European Union and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IIDEA) in Nigeria.
