Recently, the outstanding achievements of two undergraduate students from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Somtochukwu Augustus Umeh and Chinedu Nwafor, both from the Economics Department, were celebrated. They were among the esteemed recipients of the 3rd SEE-JOY NIGERIAN CHILDREN AWARDS, a prestigious project sponsored by SeeJoy FOUNDATION INT’L in collaboration with the Anambra State Government.
The award recognises the students’ exceptional academic performance, possessing the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) among 300-level students from the institution. This remarkable feat is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and academic excellence.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of COOU, Prof. Kate Omenugha, received the awardees in her office and congratulated them on their achievement, commending them for making themselves, their families, and the university proud. She encouraged them to take on the responsibility to strive harder and conclude their programme with flying colours.
Prof. Omenugha reiterated the university’s commitment to being a competitive student-oriented institution of excellence through the 3V (Values, Viability, and Visibility) agenda. She emphasised that students remain integral to the transformation drive of her administration.
As a follow-up, the Vice-Chancellor invited the awardees and their association, the Policy Analysis and Research Congress (PARC COOU), to join as student climate change ambassadors in the forthcoming environmental preservation project of the university, beginning with the University Tree Planting initiative slated for Wednesday, 17th July 2024.
In their response, Somtochukwu and Chinedu expressed their gratitude to the Acting Vice-Chancellor for their efforts in making COOU a more convenient and choice destination for learning. They assured the management of their commitment to taking up the assignment as Climate Change Agents of COOU and appreciated the support from their Head of Department, Dr Ogochukwu Ugwunna and other Lecturers in their Department. They promised not to relent in their studies and praised the university for its continued support.
This achievement is a testament to the university’s dedication to academic excellence, as the Now University and of the Future, and its commitment to producing outstanding students who excel in various fields. The university community congratulates Somtochukwu and Chinedu on their well-deserved awards and wishes them continued success in their academic pursuits.
