COOU, 11 OTHER VARSITIES PARTICIPATE IN THE UN-ECOSOC & NGO’S TRAINING ON GENDER & SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY

A seven-member team from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University arrives in Abuja for a residential capacity training on how to draft a comprehensive Gender and Sexual Harassment Policy for Nigerian Universities.
The all-expenses-paid training is being organized by Alliances for Africa, a Non- non-governmental organisation with observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and consultative status with the United Nations ECOSOC.
According to Ms Iheoma Obibi, the Executive Director of Alliances for Africa, the training is aimed at equipping Directors and Heads of Gender Studies Units in Nigerian universities with the skills needed to formulate and implement a policy that will help in fighting sexual harassment and also train research assistants and enumerators in data gathering in this regard.
The training is scheduled to be held from 9th to 15th June 2024 at Bolton White Hotels and Apartments, Area 11, Abuja.
The seven-member team representing COOU include; Prof. Angela Nwammuo (Team leader), Prof. Njideka Ebisi, Dr. Chisom Nneamaka Okafor, Mr. Henry Ikechukwu, Mrs Sandra Aghaebe, Mrs Chinwe Ebere Akpulue, and Mrs Ilodigwe Anthonia Onyinye.
COOU is among the twelve Universities in Nigeria selected for the training.
Speaking to COOUNewS, Prof. Nwammuo thanked the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, whom she described as a renowned Gender Scholar whose efforts in a short time in office have positioned COOU among the community of Universities in Nigeria.
