There are controversies surrounding the death of Emmanuel Eze, a tax collector at the Ikpa market in the university town of Nsukka, Enugu state.

Eze, a father of three, was found hanging around 7 pm on a rope tied round his neck inside an uncompleted building along Orba road in Nsukka local government area of the state.

It was gathered that the suicide, who hailed from Umuogili village in Eha-Alumona of Nsukka local government area of Enugu state, started a building project in his village a few months back before he developed a health challenge. He was said to have been taken to a neighbouring town where he was treated only for him to experience a relapse no sooner than he visited his building site again.

“It is believed that what happened to him was projected by the same people who caused his illness,” the source said.

However, other sources said he committed suicide due to frustration. He was said to have attacked his sister just a day earlier. He was also said to have, once, struck his sister with a pestle for which he was taken to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, where she is still battling for survival.

Further enquiries showed that the deceased had returned from the northern parts of the country a few years back over the Boko Haram insurgency.
