Comrade Nwafor emerges NLC Chairman

In the just concluded election of the new executive of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) Anambra State chapter, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor staff of the Anambra state Universal Basic Education Board(ASUBEB) and the current Chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) Anambra State Council emerged the winner.

The returning officer of the election Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU National president declared Comrade Nwafor the winner and the new Chairman of the congress with 247 votes against his opponent Comrade Chinwe Orizu the incumbent Chairman of the union who scored 241 votes.

Other declared Winners, are Comrade Maureen Stone Enujioke, Chairman of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) Anambra state chapter and Comrade Jane Ngozi Cele Okafor of the Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ISSAN), who were both returned Unopposed as Ex-officio Members.
Prof. Osodeke also declared that other positions as Vice Chairman, Auditor and Treasurer, were inconclusive and would be concluded on the next day, Wednesday, 8th March 2023.
The election took place at the 13th delegate conference of the NLC held on Tuesday, 7th March 2023 at NUT house Awka.

The Chairman-elect Comrade Humphrey Nwafor in his acceptance speech thanked him for giving him victory and committed his trust in God to take the affairs of the union to a greater height.
He further promised that the welfare of the workers will be his utmost priority as the outgoing Chairman has set a high pace for him.

During the conference, the incumbent Chairman of the congress, Comrade Chinwe Orizu commended the state governor, prof. Charles Soludo for the increment of the worker’s salary by 10% and appealed to him to implement the new minimum wage structure fully.
