COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MONTHLY CONGRESS OF NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS (NUJ) ANAMBRA STATE COUNCIL HELD AT THE PRESS CENTRE, AWKA ON THURSDAY 8TH OCTOBER, 2020.

PREAMBLE
The Congress deliberated on a number of issues affecting the Union and the State and resolved as follows.

Congress commended the State government for providing resettlement centers and relief materials for flood affected communities in the State and urged the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to intensify efforts to ensure that all those living in flood prone areas in the State, including Ossamalla and Omamballa are protected from the increased flood menace.

Congress commended the State government for upgrading the State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, to a Polytechnic, which it noted would help address the education needs of our youths, but urged the Government to address the infrastructural and manpower deficits in the polytechnic to enable it to befit the status of a polytechnic.

Congress called on the State government, as a matter of urgency, to rehabilitate all dilapidated intra and intercity roads in parts of the State, with high quality materials, to guarantee their durability and save the people from avoidable danger.

Congress regretted the reported influx of stranger elements in parts of the State and urged security agents to ensure that undesirable elements were not allowed to have a field day in the State.

Congress commended the National Inland Waterways Authority for the ongoing efforts to upgrade Onitsha Sea Port and make it a port of destination and urged the Agency to expedite action on the exercise, which the Congress noted would help boost business activities in the South East and reduce accidents caused by articulated vehicles that presently transport containers to the zone.
