COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF NUJ TARABA STATE CONGRESS, HELD AT THE HALL OF THE PRESS CENTRE, JALINGO ON 12TH JULY, 2023

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council, held it’s congress this July which was presided over by the chairman of the council, Mr. David Nyah.

Having deliberated over issues affecting the union and the practice of the journalism profession in Taraba State, the congress resolved as follows:

  1. Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Taraba State Council Congratulates Governor Agbu Kefas on his victory at the polls and subsequent swearing in as the Governor of the state.
  2. The union promised to support his administration to succeed.
  3. Congress implores Governor Agbu Kefas to support the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and equally empower the State owned Media Houses, being the TSBS and TTV to enable them function effectively.
  4. The union also called on the governor to intensify more effort for peace to be restored to Ussa, Takum, Karim lamido Local Government and Yangtu Special Development Areas.
  5. The union urged all Tarabans to learn to live in peace with one another and to support the governor in all his policies and programmes in the interest of the state.
  6. NUJ commended the governor for appointing two of its members being, Dr. Jeji Williams as Chief of Staff and Mr. Yusuf Sanda as Chief Press Secretary to the governor..
  7. The Union commended the governor for declaring the state of Emergency on Education sector by ensuring free Education at primary and secondary schools as well as slashing of tuition fees for Taraba State University Jalingo and College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo by fifty percent.
  8. The Union lamented over the hike in the prices of food items which is now beyond the reach of the common man, thereby reducing them to begging. It therefore advises the government to supply grains to be sold at subsidized rates to member of the public.
  9. The meeting observed a minutes’ silence in respect of its members who’s passed away recently, two of which are Late Maxwell Barde and Late Deneng Tarveshima of TTV Chapel.
