Dr Dennis Allagoa, the Chief Medical Director(CMD), Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, has donated over 150 glasses, mosquito nets during a medical outreach to Odoni Community, in Sagbama Local Government  Area of Bayelsa..

Allagoa, said on Saturday that the medical outreach was organised in honour of his mother, late Mrs Elizabeth Allagoa, who died at the age of 91 but was yet to be buried.

The CMD said the gesture was in memory of his late mother, who wanted to become a nurse, in her youth, describing her as “someone who had her people at heart’’ and wanted to build a small cottage hospital for her  community.

He said that the memorial outreach programme, was part of the activities to mark the burial which had been scheduled for Dec. 17, 2021.

“Today we are reaching out to her people, in her memory which lives forever in our heart.

“We are giving glasses, doing free eye tests, free distribution of medical equipment to the health centre, for the health of the Odoni people,” he said.

Allagoa said that he was grateful to God for the opportunity to reach out to his mother’s community.

Mr Chris Hannasah, first son to the late mama Allagoa, said the medical outreach was organised as a gesture to reach out to the members of his late mother’s community.

In his remarks, the Chairman, organising committee of the medical outreach, Dr Obioma Obikeze, said that the outreach was organised to address the health of the Odoni community.

He said the essence was to help those who could not access healthcare and those who could not afford paying hospital bills.

The Paramount Ruler of Odoni Community, King Pere Albert, said that the free medical outreach gladdened his heart, saying that he had earlier planned a similar free medical outreach in December, before the CMD brought it to their doorsteps.

“I came here to avail myself of the opportunity that is available to everybody else. I checked my blood sugar level, did eye test, blood pressure and also received free medications”, he added.

One of the community leaders, Chief Nikadei Omemu, thanked the CMD, for the free medical outreach, saying it enabled them and their children to access quality health services, urging the community to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the free medical services. (NAN)
