Civil Servants commend Mbah over N25,000 wage award

Some civil servants in Enugu State on Wednesday commended Gov. Peter Mbah for paying them N25,000 wage award in December as promised.

On Nov. 15, Mbah announced cash transfers of between N10,000 and N25,000 to the state’s workers from December to April 2024 to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

Some of the workers who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said they were happy at the governor’s gesture.

“You can see we are happy and because of this, we are excited to resume work after Christmas holidays.

“We thank God for good health and for bringing us safe to our offices after the Christmas celebrations,’’ a civil servant said.

Another civil servant who corroborated the earlier one noted, however, that some civil servants had not received the largesse because of bank issues.

He noted also that many workers did not report at their duty posts on Wednesday because they were yet to return from their villages.

Another civil servant told NAN that government ought to give two weeks holidays to celebrate Christmas so workers could return to work the following year with more zeal.

“We cannot just spend two days and return to work throughout the year. Government should do something about it.

“The current governor is emphasising on productivity and not attendance; so we should be given enough time to rest and not be forced to sign attendance register,’’ he said.
