It was a mixed tale of joy and agony for Comrade Vincent Ovomaroyeni Ugbune, a staff member of Delta State Library Board, after a strange fire engulfed his apartment in Delta state.

Ugbune, a resident of Duke Odiachi Street, off Nnebisi road Asaba, with wife and kids, escaped death by the whiskers on Thursday after the fire incident that nearly roasted the entire family to death in the wee hours of the day.

Narrating the incident to newsmen, Ogbune said “We woke up in the morning to see that everything: Furnitures, TV, fan, clock, clothes etc, all burnt to ashes.”

Ogbune who said he is yet to find out the real cause of the fire said the inferno burnt everything in his sitting room to ashes but as God may have it, it did not extend to the rooms where the family slept.

Ogbune who said he could not quantify the level of damage caused by the disaster, lamented that the incident has left his apartment in ruins. He also said his present financial status is not enough to retool the rented building which he has occupied for years.

The library staff, however, appealed to the Delta state government, philanthropists and spirited individuals for financial and material aid to enable him fix the apartment and other materials of importance
