The universal Church today celebrates mothers in the Catholic Church for their roles, efforts, and commitments towards nation-building, the Church, families, and society.

The special day, which puts smiles and joy in the lives of women, is a moment in which they are tutored on important knowledge and advice that will help them build their homes and nurture their children so as to become useful and reflect positively in society.

In a homily at Saint Martin’s Church, Abagana, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, said that motherhood is a vocation that reflects the life of Mother Mary, whose lifestyle, humility, and prayers found her worthy, stating that Catholics celebrate mothers immediately after the Annunciation

Most Reverend Ezeokafor challenged mothers to pay more attention to the responsibilities of child upbringing and moulding, noting that although it is the duty of both parents to cater for and care for their wards, mothers are given the grace by God as special creatures to nurture and train their children.

He further encouraged them to base all they do on both the spiritual and physical training of their children, while they love, care for, and show respect to their husbands, as well as support their spiritual growth and all that revolves around them.
