Catholic Diocese Of Nnewi Marks 19th Anniversary

The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi has commemorated the nineteenth Anniversary of its creation and the inauguration of Most Reverend Hilary Paul Odili Okeke as its first Bishop.

The Diocese was inaugurated on tenth February 2002, by Most Reverend Osvaldo Padilla, the Apostolic Nuncio.

The Diocese which started with about forty-seven parishes and one hundred and thirty Priests has at present over one hundred and fifteen parishes with over three hundred and sixty Priests.

In his Homily during a holy Mass to mark the event, at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Nnewi, the Vicar General of the Diocese Monsignor Patrick Ezeobata highlighted some of the achievements the diocese has recorded since her inauguration.

They include spiritual and material infrastructure like Blessed Iwene Tansi Priest Center, Retirement home for Priests, which was single handedly built by the bishop with the proceeds from his annual birthdays as well as Pastoral centres, Chukwunenye Micro finance bank, Chukwunenye oil and gas, pilgrimage centres, diocesan hospitals amongst others.

Speaking shortly after the event the Director of Social Communications of the Diocese, Very Reverend Father Martins Onwudiwe counted the achievements of the Bishop in the media industry in the Diocese and asked God to give him good health to continue with his good works.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of the Pastoral letter to the entire Diocesan catholic faithful by the Bishop.
