C’ River to commence social welfare scheme for youths

The Cross River government has pledged to commence a social welfare scheme that would address the needs of youths in the state.Gov. Ben Ayade, disclosed this at the first Cross River All Progressive Congress (APC) youths summit in Calabar, on Saturday.

“As a government, we are going to commence a social welfare scheme that would see to the needs of the youths in the state.“This scheme will be domiciled in the 196 wards in the state. So, as you can go back to your various wards, go to your ward chairmen, councillors and traditional rulers to get involve in the scheme,” Ayade said.

He also said that the future of Nigeria’s youths starts now, if they must get involved in the political leadership of the nation.According to him, Nigeria had made progress, but the progress was not noticeable because young people had not been brought into government.

He urged the youths to believe in themselves, adding that it was only God that could change anyone’s destiny.“I am here to tell you that the future is now and as youths, you must not be limited by the circumstances of your birth,” he said.

Mr Alphonsus Eba, the state APC Chairman, said the youths came out en masse to thank the governor for their emancipation in the state. Eba said that Ayade would be remembered for being the only governor that had appointed over 7,000 people, mostly youths in government. Also, Mr Ismaeel Ahmed, APC National Youth Chairman, appealed to the governor to visit the youths whenever he visited Abuja.

Ahmed commended Ayade for all he had done for youths in the state and urged him to join them in their rallies as well as speak for them at the national level. (NAN)
