The Cross River Government on Wednesday highlighted the need to provide a conducive work environment for public and civil servants in the state. The State Commissioner for Works, Mr Pius Ankpo, made this observation while fielding questions from newsmen in Calabar. He said that a conducive environment would enhance productivity of the state’s workforce and enable the government to deliver on its promises to the people. Ankpo said that the Gov. Bassey Otu-led administration was focusing on the wellbeing of the people through the provision of social amenities that would improve their standard of living.

“Charity, they say, begins at home.  As you can see, barely few months into office, the governor’s office is under renovation. “The governor that I know cannot work in a decent office and allow the civil service, which is the engine room of government to suffer. “In my several interactions with the governor, his concerns are on how to improve the working conditions of the people. “In due time, his agenda will be felt in all facets of the state’s economy,” Ankpo said.

He noted that the destruction orchestrated by hoodlums during the EndSars protest in 2020 added to the infrastructural deficit of the workforce. The commissioner urged the labour unions in the state to continue to support the government, adding that billions of naira was needed to fix the facilities.
