Buhari Mourns Victims of Ebonyi Tragedy

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the motor accident on Akaeze-Ukwu River in Ebonyi State Friday night, in which several passengers were feared dead.

A bus carrying over 30 passengers returning from a burial had plunged into the river along the Akaeze-Ishiagu expressway, in Ivo Local Government Area of the state.

President Buhari expressed his sadness in his condolences to the government and people of Ebonyi State.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Mr Buhari is quoted as saying: ‘We are saddened and aggrieved at this colossal loss of human lives.’

He added that the thoughts and prayers of the government and people of Nigeria are with the families of the victims of the accident.

President Buhari commended the Ebonyi State Government in spearheading the rescue and recovery efforts as well as the support it has received from the neighbouring state governments in that regard.
