Bishop warns politicians against “do-or-die” politicking

Bishop of Ogoja Catholic Dioceses in Cross River, Most Rev. Donatus Akpan, on Saturday advised politicians against “do-or-die’’ politicking.

Akpan gave the advice in his homily at the dedication and inauguration of St. Daniel Catholic Parish in Nsofang near Ikom, in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the church was built and donated by Sen. Sandy Onor, Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate in Cross River.

Akpan warned that politicians who believed that kingmakers could help them to get to power would be disappointed at the end of the day.

Noting that it is God that gives power, he stressed that only politicians with good intentions for Nigerians would emerge victorious at the 2023 general elections.

The bishop said that God would harken to the prayers of Nigerians and enthrone His preferred choices across the country to terminate current sufferings and wanton killings.

“If you are aspiring for a political office to do good, the God of goodness and mercy will see you through given your genuine political aspiration. Power comes from God only.

“Power comes to those who have been ordained by God to have it and not by kingmakers,’’ he stressed.

In his goodwill message, the Catholic Archbishop, Calabar Metropolitan Archdiocese, Rt. Rev. Joseph Ekuwen commended Onor for his good gesture.

He lauded the priest and congregants over the feat and assured that God would reward all those involved in building the temple for God.

In his remarks, Onor said that he embarked on the project in appreciation of God’s blessings in his life and also in fulfilment of a personal covenant with God.

Onor commended the clergy, friends and associates for the encouragement received to actualise the project.

The church dedication was attended by royal fathers and political associates of Onor across party lines. (NAN)
